Zašto se Kraljica nije vratila u London nakon Dianine smrti?

Taj 31. kolovoz 1997. godine bio je nevjerojatno tužan za cijelu Veliku Britaniju, ali i svijet, no, svi su tada zamjerali Kraljici Elizabeti II. što se nije vratila u London kako bi javno odala počast preminuloj princezi Diani.

Razlog zašto je odbijala pritiske javnosti i odlučila još nekoliko dana ostati na odmoru u Balmoralu, gdje je bila s princem Philipom, Charlesom, Harryjem i Williamom bili su upravo - njezini unuci.

Naime, Kraljica je htjela učiniti sve što je u njezinoj moći kako bi zaštitila mlade unuke, koji su doživjeli veliku tragediju i ostali bez majke. Nije htjela da budu izloženi javnosti u tako teškom trenutku, već je htjela da te dane prožive u blizini članova svoje obitelji.

Prvi puta je narod stavila na drugo mjesto

"Kraljica je tada prvi puta u životu svoju obitelj stavila ispred svog naroda", izjavila je Tina Brown, autorica knjige o Dianinu životu.

Kraljica je na kraju ipak stigla u London dan prije nego je planirala, odjevena u crno te je prošetala ispred Buckinghamske palače, gdje su uplakani građani ostavljali cvijeće i svijeće za preminulu i nikad prežaljenu princezu. Obratila se tada i javnosti te izrazila svoju tugu i žaljenje koje osjeća zbog tog ogromnog gubitka.
